Mission Statement

And Philosophy

The Student Service Department at M. A. Milam K-8 Center believes in providing the highest quality of service so that ALL of our students are empowered to lead productive lives as lifelong learners and responsible citizens.  In keeping with the American School Counselor Association model, we are committed to developing and maintaining a data based comprehensive model that promotes student wellness and achievement.  The School Counseling team will work to provide a safe environment for ALL students and will address their personal/social, academic, career and health/wellness needs.  We believe that it takes a village to meet the needs of ALL students and thus believe in collaborating with the student's primary caretaker, teachers, administrators and others in helping a student reach their individual potential.

Peer Mediation Program

Everyone has conflict at some point in their lives.  What is important is how you deal with the conflict that you are experiencing.  At M. A. Milam K-8 Center, the Peer Mediation program is designed to help the students resolve minor conflicts in a safe and neutral environment. Middle school students are trained to serve as Peer Mediators.

Primary and Intermediate students can be referred by teachers, counselors or administrators.  Talk to your teacher if you are having a problem with a classmate.

Middle School students can be referred by teachers, counselors, administrators or can self-refer.  If you are experiencing a conflict that may get out of hand pass by the MLC office and sign up for Peer Mediation.
